ATLANTA (March 27, 2026) - This week, Senate Majority Leader Jason Anavitarte (R-Dallas) announced plans to designate the intersection of SR 6/US-278 and Prospect Road in Polk County as the "Larry Haney Memorial Intersection" during the next legislative session. A lifelong resident of Rockmart, Larry Haney was a well-known local businessman who owned and operated Haney Farm & Ranch Supply, Haney Powersports, and Sidekicks Restaurant. He passed away Sunday morning, March 22, 2026, at the age of 73.
"Larry was the kind of man you don't come across often-a true friend, a devoted family man, and someone who carried himself with quiet strength and kindness, a small-town cowboy through and through," said Leader Anavitarte. "I was grateful to know him and to call him a friend. He loved his family deeply and took pride in his community, and that showed in every conversation and every relationship he built over the years. His impact will live on in Rockmart and beyond, and he will be greatly missed by so many. My thoughts and prayers are with the Haney family during this time."
This plan is also supported by Rep. Trey Kelley (R-Cedartown), who represents Polk County in the House of Representatives.
"Larry made a lasting impact on our community in a way that goes far beyond what he built," said Rep. Kelley. "He was a family man, a steady presence, and someone who truly cared about the people who walked through his doors. In West Georgia, places like Haney Farm & Ranch mean something because of people like Larry, people who invest in relationships, not just business. His legacy will continue to live on in this community for years to come. He will be greatly missed, and we are keeping the Haney family in our thoughts and prayers."
Haney is survived by his wife of 53 years, Elaine; his two daughters, Shea and Alison; his brother, Mike; and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The proposal has already been reviewed and approved by the Georgia Department of Transportation, confirming that there are no conflicts with previous road and bridge naming resolutions. With this confirmation, Leader Anavitarte will be able to introduce the resolution in the 2027 Legislative Session, formalizing the dedication and ensuring this tribute becomes a permanent feature of Polk County's landscape.
