On September 4, Ambassador Fan Yong attended a reception co-hosted by the Embassy of China in Botswana and Ministry of International Relations of Botswana to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Botswana. The event saw the participation of nearly 300 attendees, including Hon. Dithapelo Keorapetse, Speaker of Botswana National Assembly, H.E. Mokgweetsi E.K. Masisi, Former President of Botswana and Former First Lady, Hon. Mr. Moeti Mohwasa, Minister for State President, Hon. Phenyo Butale, Minister of International Relations, Hon. David Tshere, Minister of Communications and Innovation, high-level Botswana government officials and former political leaders, heads of missions from Diplomatic Corps, and representatives of the Chinese communities.
Ambassador Fan said that over the past 50 years, political mutual trust between the two countries has been continuously deepened, practical cooperation has flourished, and people-to-people exchanges and cooperation have become increasingly close. China and Botswana will take the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries as an opportunity to implement the important consensus reached by the two Heads of State, share development opportunities, continuously enrich the connotation of the China-Botswana strategic partnership, and promote the building of an all-weather China-Africa community with a shared future in the new era.
Honorable Minister Phenyo Butale thanked China for its valuable support for Botswana's economic and social development. He reaffirmed Botswana's firm support for the One-China principle. He said that the Botswana government is committed to fostering stronger relations with China and looks forward to further strengthening practical cooperation under the framework of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.
