New Thriller by Producer Steve Schwartz ’70 Offers Family Drama During Period of National Turmoil

Anniversary follows a family that gets caught up in a controversial political movement known as The Change. The Hollywood Reporter describes the movie as "peppering dashes of humor into its brew of foreboding."

"It's an important movie, but also a very entertaining movie," Schwartz said in an interview, adding that it can be viewed through four possible lenses: as a family drama, a political movie, a revenge thriller, or a profile of mental illness. "And they'll all be right."

The film is directed by Jan Komasa, with a screenplay by Lori Rosene-Gambino. Schwartz produced the film with Nick Wechsler, Kate Churchill, and his wife, Paula Mae Schwartz.

Schwartz graduated from Bowdoin with a major in government and English and "an abiding love of the outdoors," according to TheBowdoin Orien t. His support helped the College establish the Schwartz Outdoor Leadership Center, and he has served on the boards of the American Alpine Club and the Appalachian Mountain Club, as well as on Bowdoin's board of trustees.

After Bowdoin, Schwartz earned an MFA from Columbia University's School of the Arts, and in 1990 launched a successful public relations firm, Schwartz Communications. In 2004, the Schwartzes established their film production company, Chockstone Pictures.
