The Visual Art League of Lewisville presents Art Talk with Jackie C. Mitterer and Lisa Shatto Glasgow, who will present "Shards and Stories: How a Mosaic Artist and A Thriller Writer Collaborate" on Tuesday, June 9, 7 p.m., at Lewisville Grand Theater, 100 N. Charles Street.
Jackie C. Mitterer was born in Lima, Peru (1971). Jackie took a bit of a detour before diving full-time into art. She earned a BBA in Peru and a dual MBA from PUC-Chile and UCLA, eventually moving to the U.S. in 2000 to marry and start a family. Now based in Dallas, she has redefined traditional mosaic art by developing her own proprietary style: Modern 3D Mosaic, a unique technique that bridges the gap between 2D and 3D artworks. These days, her whole creative process is dictated by color-it's how she processes the world and all the heavy, collective energy of current events. In this technique, color is the bridge between a flat painting and a 3D sculpture. Every piece starts as a finished acrylic painting to set the mood with pigment and tone. When life or the news sparks big emotions, they show up on the board as specific, urgent color stories. Working through it this way is incredibly cathartic and helps Jackie find her center. From there, she builds outward, picking hand-cut ceramics, sea glass, and stone for the way they catch the light and bounce color. After everything is grouted, she paints the dry grout so it blends completely into the rest of the piece. Fusing the sculpture and the painting together means that as viewers walk by, the colors and shadows shift-inviting you to stop, take a breath, and find your own sense of calm in the texture. Jackie's mantra: Art is hope and color is my voice.
Lisa Shatto Glasgow was born in Los Angeles. Lisa moved and travelled widely as a child, visiting 33 countries before reaching her teens. This early immersion in unfamiliar landscapes and cultures shaped a lasting fascination with identity, memory, and the stories people carry beneath the surface, all themes that appear frequently in her writing.
Lisa earned an MA in Comparative Literature. She received The Writers Hotel Sara Patton Fiction Stipend, and an excerpt from her novel-in-progress won the Writers League of Texas YA Manuscript Contest. Her short fiction has appeared in Gone Lawn and Literary Orphans. The Frida Files is her first novel. Currently, Lisa is at work on her second novel, a thriller set between the New York City art world and a barrier island off the coast of South Texas. Lisa and her husband split their time between Dallas and Rockport, Texas.
This event is free and open to the public.
