In Georgia, Trump Fails to Spin His Disastrous Economic Policies That Are Raising Costs for Working Families Arrow

Today, Donald Trump travelled to Georgia to try to sell his deeply unpopular economic policies, but Georgians know just how terrible his failed economic policies have been for their pocketbooks.

In Trump's first year alone, tens of thousands of Georgians have lost their jobs, families are shelling out thousands more just to afford the basics like groceries and rent, and half a million Georgians are set to lose their health insurance.

A reminder: A majority of voters - 53% - say the economy is getting worse under Trump, and 55% of voters expect prices to be even higher a year from now. The vast majority of voters - over 70% - say the price of food and housing has gone up over the past year.

In response, DNC Chair Ken Martin released the following statement:

"Donald Trump promised to lower costs on 'Day One,' but Georgians know that was just another one of Trump's broken promises. As Donald Trump calls affordability a 'fake word' and 'hoax' and spends his time building gilded ballrooms, Georgia families are seeing costs rise, health care get more expensive, and jobs disappear. While Donald Trump and Georgia Republicans continue to make life more expensive for hardworking families, Democrats in Georgia and across the country won't stop fighting to lower costs and protect health care."

Donald Trump's policies have been a complete disaster for Georgia

Tens of thousands of Georgians have lost their jobs under Trump

  • During Trump's first year in office, Georgia lost over 80,000 jobs.
  • In January 2026 alone, employers announced over 31,000 layoffs in Georgia, more than 100 times as many as in January 2025.
  • Last year, 27 family farms in Georgia filed for bankruptcy, more than double the number from a year before.

Georgia families are paying more for the basics because of Trump's inflation

  • The median Georgia family is set to lose over $1,000 per year due to Trump's Big Ugly Bill and chaotic tariffs.
  • The average Georgia family has already paid $1,178 more due to Trump's inflation, including spending $276 more on housing and hundreds more on groceries.

Trump's agenda is causing health care costs to skyrocket in Georgia

  • 500,000 Georgians will lose their health care because of Trump's Big Ugly Bill and refusal to extend ACA subsidies.
  • Because Trump refuses to extend enhanced ACA tax credits, premiums are doubling on average for 1.4 million Georgians this year. As a result, over 36,000 people in the 14th Congressional District will lose their health insurance.
  • The Big Ugly Bill also puts four rural hospitals in Georgia on the brink of closure.
