Washington, DC, Nov. 11, 2025 - The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) today urged the business aviation community to send a clear message to Congress on the need to quickly end the federal government shutdown, reverse the disproportionate prohibition on general aviation (GA) and pass a long-term funding bill for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

NBAA is encouraging members and other industry stakeholders to use the association's online Voter Voice resource to reach out to their congressional representatives.

"America's aviation system depends on stability, safety and access," said NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen. "Congress must act now-and your voice can make the difference. Speak up today to ensure lawmakers hear the aviation community loud and clear."

The form letter, which can be customized, states:

"The shutdown is placing tremendous strain on the nation's air traffic control system and the FAA professionals who safeguard our airspace every day, working without pay. The FAA has started reducing flights to manage safety risks.

"General aviation is essential to American businesses, largely small and mid-sized enterprises, headquartered in small towns and rural areas that have little or no airline service. Business aircraft are used for around 15,000 relief flights each year, responding to natural disasters, transporting organs and taking cancer patients to treatment centers," the letter adds.

"Congress has recognized that our air traffic control system was overdue for modernization and made an important down payment on needed reforms. The shutdown now threatens that progress and jeopardizes essential initiatives to expand controller hiring, improve training, and update technology and facilities," the letter continues.

Today, NBAA has also joined with more than 50 aviation stakeholders in the Modern Skies Coalition in sounding a renewed call for Congress to end the shutdown without delay. The coalition's letter to lawmakers was featured as an advertisement in the Nov. 11 edition of The Washington Post. Read the full Modern Skies statement.

Additional information about the shutdown and its impact on business aviation is also available through the association's dedicated government-shutdown web resource.
