Governors Comment on Productive, Bipartisan White House Meeting

Washington, DC - NGA Chair Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt and Vice Chair Maryland Governor Wes Moore spoke to the media Friday following a productive bipartisan meeting with President Trump and Cabinet secretaries. Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, and North Carolina Gov. Josh Stein joined to share details on a constructive conversation covering issues like affordability, infrastructure, energy, transportation, disaster relief and immigration enforcement.

"I think it's really important imagery that we stand together as governors of our states and represent all of America - and just remind people that there's really more that brings us together and unites us than divides us," said Gov. Stitt. "We had a great meeting with the President and Cabinet secretaries. Overall, it was a really productive meeting and a great show of how governors can come before the President and bring up issues that affect all of us."

"It was a productive meeting at the White House, and it was a chance for us to be able to share our thoughts and our perspectives and our ideas with the Cabinet secretaries, the agency heads, and with the President himself," added Gov. Moore. "We had a chance to talk about the things that matter to the people of our states. It's important to have these opportunities because it shows that not just is bipartisanship important, but it's alive. Having the nation's governors, having the chief executives of all individual states, highlights not just the importance of state rights, but also that the people who we protect every single day, the individuals in our own communities, will always know that we are going to champion them no matter the circumstance or the audience."
