SCAM ALERT: The Aurora Municipal Court has learned of an active telephone scam in which an impersonator identifies themself as an Aurora Municipal Court Probation Officer and tells victims that a warrant has been issued for their arrest and they must pay through gift cards or money wire to avoid being detained by the "Department of Immigration."
These calls are NOT real communication from the courts. The courts will never call to collect a fine without first sending written documentation. Likewise, court employees will never call to request payment for failing to appear in court. Court employees and law enforcement will never make contact by phone - or suggest meeting on the street, at a store or at a jail facility - for a cash payment and will never ask anyone to wire money.
If you receive a suspicious call from someone alleging to be an official of the court, please report the information to your local police department and notify the Colorado Attorney General's Office by visiting StopFraudColorado.gov.
