Backflow Prevention Notifications

9/11/2025 - The City of Leander is sending out backflow prevention notifications to water customers whose devices are due for testing. If you're affected, you'll receive a letter in the mail with instructions on how to complete the testing process.

Why Backflow Matters:

Backflow preventers protect Leander's drinking water from contamination. Regular testing ensures these devices are working properly and meeting federal, state, and local requirements.

Who is affected?

Commercial and residential properties with:

  • Fire Sprinkler Systems - Annual backflow testing required
  • Swimming Pools with Auto Fillers - Annual backflow testing required
  • Landscape Irrigation Systems (All irrigation systems must have backflow preventers.)
    • Residences with septic - Annual backflow testing required
    • Residences without septic - Backflow testing is required every five years
