Planning Commission will discuss smoke, vape shops

Dec. 17, 2025 - The Planning Commission will meet for its regular session on Thursday afternoon with an agenda that includes discussion of an ordinance related to smoke and vape shops in Hampton.

The meeting, which begins at 3:30 p.m., will be in chambers on the eighth floor of City Hall, located at 22 Lincoln St. It will be broadcast on the city's TV stations, Cox 47 and Verizon 22, and streamed live at hampton.gov/livetv.

The. public hearing section of the meeting will focus on a proposed ordinance to amend the zoning of smoke and vape shops. These businesses have been allowed in the "general retail use" category in eligible commercial zoning districts, but the proposed amendment would create a separate definition for smoke and vape shops.

The Planning Commission will discuss the proposal and make a recommendation to the City Council, which will vote on it at a subsequent meeting. If the proposal is approved, any new smoke and vape shops would be limited to the "general commercial C-3" district, with additional standards and subject to an approved use permit.

At Tuesday's meeting, the commission will also hear a report from Community Development's youth planner.

This will be the last Planning Commission meeting of 2025. Click here for a link to the full agenda.
