Supporting the well-being of the Defence Team and the broader Defence Community is essential to our operational readiness and our ability to deliver on Canada's defence and security priorities. When people feel supported, respected, and can access meaningful support, they are better positioned to contribute fully and effectively.
Following the decision to entrust the Sexual Misconduct Support and Resource Centre (SMSRC) with the design and delivery of Restorative Engagement on Systemic Racism, as required under the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) Systemic Racism Class Action (SRCA) Settlement, the organization's mandate has evolved. This responsibility prompted an expansion of support services for Defence Community members affected by racism, while continuing to support those affected by sexual misconduct. To reflect this broader role, the SMSRC is adopting a new name: the Defence Community Support and Resource Centre (DCSRC).
While maintaining its strong foundation and supports for those affected by sexual misconduct, the DCSRC now also provides support to Defence Community members affected by racism and racial discrimination. Support is available through the 24/7 Support Line (1-844-750-1648), providing individuals with access to confidential, timely, and appropriate assistance.
The Restorative Services team, formerly under the Chief Professional Conduct and Culture organization, has joined the DCSRC. This integration supports accountability, learning, and healing, and reinforces the DCSRC's role in delivering our SRCA Settlement commitments in a meaningful and person-centered way.
These changes reflect a deliberate effort to align our support structures with our commitments and responsibilities, while responding to the needs of the Defence Team and the Defence Community. Supporting those affected by harm, sexual misconduct, discrimination, or racism is not separate from operational readiness, it is fundamental to it.
