Avista crews remain focused on restoring power following windstorm

Nearly 93% of customers have power restored as crews continue challenging repairs.

Spokane, Wash. March. 13, 2026, 5 p.m.: Avista crews have restored power to about 93% of customers originally impacted by Wednesday's windstorm. Avista is focused on complex repairs-many in harder-to-reach areas that take longer to rebuild.

As of 5p.m. Friday, approximately 4,090 customers remain without power across Avista's service territory, with around 253 separate outage incidents still active. Avista has increased resources in the field. Today's response includes more than 50 Avista line crews, 17 contract crews and 16 vegetation management crews, supported by hundreds of Avista employees across the company.

While early restoration work often brings power back to larger groups of customers at once, remaining outages can involve heavier damage and more individual repairs-like downed lines and damaged equipment in areas with difficult access.

Crews must often clear debris first, then make repairs and rebuild portions of the system. Recent snowfall has added challenges by slowing travel and making some work sites harder to access safely.

"We understand how stressful and disruptive it can be to be without power, particularly when the weather is making things even more challenging," said Heather Rosentrater, Avista president and CEO. "Please know that our crews are working tirelessly, around the clock, to restore power as quickly and safely as possible. Your patience and understanding during this time mean so much to us. Thank you for your ongoing trust and resilience."

Estimated restoration times for many areas are available and will continue to be updated as remaining repairs are completed.

Safety during an outage

Avista urges customers to stay safe during storm recovery:

  • Treat all downed or sagging power lines as energized.
  • Stay away from downed lines and do not attempt to move limbs or debris near lines.
  • If you see a downed power line, call 911, then Avista at (800) 227-9187.
  • Use a generator only to run specific appliances and locate it outside with the exhaust facing away from the house so poisonous carbon monoxide fumes do not enter the home.

How customers can get updates

Customers can report outages and view updates at myavista.com/outage, through the Avista mobile app or by calling (800) 227-9187. Registered customers can also text "OUT" to AVISTA (284-782) or STAT to get status updates (text "REG" to AVISTA (284-782) to register; the phone number must match the number on the account).

Customers can also follow Avista's Facebook and Instagram accounts for updates. Customers should also check their service equipment for damage. If the overhead service mast or meter equipment is damaged, repairs must be completed by a licensed electrician before Avisa can safely restore service.
