The City of Santa Fe is proud to announce a major milestone in the transformative North Guadalupe Street infrastructure project: all paving is now complete. This significant achievement marks one of the final stages in an $11 million improvement effort funded by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) through the Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP).
This week, crews successfully completed the final lift of asphalt, officially finishing all paving along North Guadalupe Street, from West Alameda Street to Paseo de Peralta. Additional accomplishments include installing the valley gutter on the east side of West San Francisco Street, placing three cement collars, and finishing bark mulch installation throughout the new medians.
These upgrades are part of a comprehensive effort to modernize a vital corridor in the heart of Santa Fe. With the majority of major work now behind us, it is just a matter of weeks before the project is fully complete.
Key improvements now in place:
-Smooth new pavement for safer, more comfortable travel
-ADA-compliant sidewalks for enhanced pedestrian mobility
-Five-foot-wide dedicated bike lanes for safer cycling
-Modernized traffic signals to improve flow and intersection safety
-Upgraded storm drainage to reduce flooding and improve runoff management
-Energy-efficient LED street lighting for consistent, brighter illumination
-Enhanced access to local businesses for a more inviting environment for customers and visitors
Final steps ahead
In the coming weeks, crews will focus on:
-Roadway striping
-Installation of new signage
-Final adjustments to collars (manholes and valve boxes)
These finishing touches may involve brief, temporary lane closures but will move the project into its final phase.
Additionally, median landscaping, which will contribute to traffic calming and enhance the overall streetscape, will be funded by the City and carried out by Parks and Open Space at a later date. While not part of the current construction phase, this future enhancement reflects the City's continued commitment to creating safer and more attractive public spaces.
A collective effort
The City of Santa Fe extends its sincere gratitude to the FHWA for their funding support, GM Emulsion and Wilson Co. for their exceptional work, and the residents and businesses of Santa Fe for their patience and cooperation throughout construction.
Once completed, the project will deliver safer, more efficient travel for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians while also improving accessibility and visibility for local businesses. North Guadalupe Street will serve the community more effectively for years to come.
