WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Congresswoman Sarah Elfreth (MD-03) released the following statement on her vote on H.R. 4, the Rescissions Act of 2025. This legislation codifies DOGE's cuts to public broadcasting and international aid funding. Elfreth has repeatedly spoken out against cuts to USAID, as well as PBS and NPR.
"Since the beginning of his Administration, President Trump and DOGE have taken a sledgehammer to the federal government, gutting agencies and firing civil servants. Today, House Republicans brought a portion of these cuts before Congress and voted to cancel $9.4 billion of funding that has already been passed - bipartisanly - into law by Congress, stretching back decades. These funds support programs that prevent AIDS, feed millions worldwide, and bring beloved and award-winning public broadcasting to homes across this nation.
"While we can have a good-faith conversation around ways to make government more efficient, this Administration has made no attempt to do so. Even with Elon Musk departing DOGE, far too much damage has already been done. It's why I introduced the first bipartisan, anti-DOGE bill to protect federal employees, and I'll continue to fight for the vital services that this President is attempting to scrap.
"Finally, these cuts are a matter of Constitutional authority. Congress has appropriated this money, and we should not relinquish our power of the purse to the Executive Branch. The President is looking to Congress to rubber-stamp his DOGE cuts, and I voted no."
