WASHINGTON, D.C. - As U.S. health care costs continue skyrocketing, Families USA today launched a new six-figure campaign to hold policymakers accountable for addressing the corporate practices driving up the cost of health care in America.
"Stop the Bleed: Cut Costs, Not Care" will get as many candidates and elected leaders as possible to commit to taking real action to lower health care costs caused by corporate greed by asking them the question on everyone's mind, "What are you doing to stop the bleed?"
"Americans have struggled with a health care affordability crisis, paying inflated and irrational prices for years. It's past time for Congress to take action on hang costs by taking on the health industry," said Anthony Wright, executive director of Families USA. "People know that predatory pricing and practices by health corporations are bleeding them dry. After a year of President Trump and Republican leadership passing devastating cuts to our health care and letting premium tax credits for millions of people expire, Congress needs an actual affordability agenda that cuts costs, not care. Americans deserve to know what candidates are going to do to stop the bleeding of their family rushes, and actually bring down costs."
"People in communities big and small, rural and urban, blue and red have been sounding the alarm about the high cost of health care for decades. We're done begging for band-aids for this broken system," said Sophia Tripoli, senior director of health policy. "It's time to change the conversation and finally take on runaway corporate greed in our health care in a meaningful way."
Stop the Bleed will activate Families USA partners and advocates across the country to commit to asking candidates what their plans are for taking on corporate greed and bringing down health care costs. The campaign will begin publishing responses in April. Tripoli announced the campaign at Families USA's annual Health Action Conference, a convening of hundreds of health advocates and organizers from across the country.
