ATLANTA - State Representatives Viola Davis (D-Stone Mountain), Rhonda Burnough (D-Riverdale), Sheila Jones (D-Atlanta), Edna Jackson (D-Savannah), Mekyah McQueen (D-Smyrna) and Terry Cummings (D-Mableton) recently introduced House Resolution 1195 to recognize Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Day, which they will celebrate on Monday, February 23, 2026, at 12 p.m. at the Georgia Freight Depot in Atlanta.
"Georgia is home to over 60 DST chapters-alumnae and undergraduate-serving communities statewide," said these representatives. "More than 400 members are slated to attend the two-day event focused on advocacy and legislative engagement. We will attend preparatory sessions with recognized advocacy leaders on Sunday, February 22, 2026, and members will meet with state legislators to discuss current and pending bills on a wide range of issues impacting Georgia's citizens on Monday, February 23, 2026. The group photo is scheduled for 10:00 am at the Georgia State Capitol South Steps."
Delta leaders and members will share feedback on current and proposed legislation, including healthcare access, education opportunities, election security and other issues of importance to Georgia voters.
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is a private, not-for-profit organization founded on January 13, 1913, by 22 collegiate women at Howard University. The organization is committed to public service, with a primary focus on the community and seeks to promote academic excellence, providing scholarships, supporting the underserved and advocating for civil rights.
