The ABZORB 1890

Boston, MA, February 18, 2026 - New Balance introduces its latest model, the ABZORB 1890. The new lifestyle shoe draws on the brand's heritage DNA while offering a playful exploration and representation of visible tech. It's more than an accessory on display; it's a partner in discovery.

While rooted in archival New Balance models, the ABZORB 1890 introduces an innovative design language of its own. Adding to the ABZORB family, the model uses the original 2002 sole unit featuring full-length SBS ABZORB. This dynamic and highly technical setup ensures the well-known comfort of ABZORB cushioning without compromising the overall form of the shoe. The upper adds visual motion with a no-sew wave cutout pattern over exposed mesh, paying homage to the original design of the 890v3. The high-frequency welded reflective "teardrops" on the forefront add a futuristic touch.

"For projects that reference archival models, a lot of the design process is focused on refining and improving existing elements without losing what made them special in the first place," said James Lee, Lead Designer. "The goal is always to strike the right balance-creating something that feels modern and compelling while still staying authentic. I've been at New Balance for long enough that the shoes I wore early in my career are now starting to show up as archive references, which is a pretty full-circle moment. I actually used to run in the 890v3 when it was on the market, so having the opportunity to modernize a silhouette I'm personally familiar with made the process especially fun and meaningful."

The campaign, shot by photographer Nikolai Ahn, brings the ABZORB 1890 to life against the vibrant backdrop of Wolmido, Incheon, just outside of Seoul, South Korea-a nucleus of cultural influence. Ahn's creative vision reflects the shoe's spirit of balance, moving between the city's playful streets and its restorative natural landscapes.

The ABZORB 1890 will be available globally on NewBalance.com and at select retailers beginning on March 12, 2026, for a suggested retail price of $180.
