Senator Dick Durbin Visits JJC Entrepreneur and Business Center

U.S. Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin visited Joliet Junior College's (JJC) Entrepreneur and Business Center (EBC) at the City Center Campus to learn more about the College's efforts to support entrepreneurs and small business owners following his successful effort to secure $800,000 in congressionally directed spending.

"Small businesses need more support right now, and that's exactly what the EBC is offering," Durbin said. "The small business owners and entrepreneurs who benefit from this center represent the promise of young people looking to roll up their sleeves and kick-start their careers, working moms who defied the odds and decided to pursue their passion project or even an immigrant to this country looking to give back and get their shot at the American Dream. It's great to be here at the EBC to celebrate the good, impactful work that is at the core of this center's mission."

During the visit, Durbin received an update on the EBC's programs and services, which provide training, advising and resources for entrepreneurs and small business owners looking to start or grow their businesses. He also met with EBC clients Josie Rivera, owner of Simply Josie Rivera Sweet and Treats, and Cylee Ragan, owner of Cylee Katherine Events, who shared how the center has supported their business growth.

"Senator Durbin's investment in Joliet Junior College's Entrepreneur and Business Center is ultimately an investment in people and the communities they serve," said Dr. Clyne Namuo, president of Joliet Junior College. "We are honored by his confidence in JJC and grateful for his longstanding support of initiatives that create opportunity across our region. Behind every small business is a unique story and a commitment to make a difference in their communities. JJC shares that purpose by creating pathways that help individuals, families and communities thrive."

The federal funding will allow JJC to increase one-on-one business advising, expand educational programming and extend services to additional communities throughout the college district.

The Entrepreneur and Business Center provides business counseling, training and resources to entrepreneurs and small business owners across JJC's district, helping launch new ventures, strengthen existing businesses and support local economic growth.
