White Rock Trail reopens Friday after major infrastructure repair project is completed two months ahead of schedule

Dallas, Texas -The section of White Rock Trail along Garland Road between East Lawther Drive and Winsted Drive and East Lawther between Garland Road and Winfrey closed for the grouting of an
abandoned 36-inch diameter pipeline will reopen to the community on Friday, August 7 - one month ahead of schedule.

Earlier this year, a sinkhole was observed next to the trail over the abandoned wastewater pipeline and was immediately backfilled. Construction work began the week of June 15, 2026, and the contractor worked diligently to complete the grouting ahead of the expected date of September 2026.

The project was completed 2 months ahead of schedule thanks to a collaboration between Dallas Water Utilities, Transportation and Public Works and the park department.

"By working together, the city has made long-term improvements for trail users. This project will reduce the chances of future sinkholes and protect the trail for everyone," said John D. Jenkins, Director, Dallas Park and Recreation Department.

Jenkins said the department looks forward to seeing the community back on the trail. "We are excited to welcome residents and visitors back to the trail. This is one of Dallas' most popular and busiest recreation area," Jenkins said. "Working with other City of Dallas departments has ensured that the trail is ready and safe for walkers, cyclists, and anyone coming to enjoy the outdoors."
