Fatal recreational aircraft crash in state's north

Emergency services have responded to a fatal recreational aircraft crash in the state's north today.

About 11.20am (Sunday 29 December 2024), emergency services responded to reports of a recreational aircraft crash on Palmers Island - about 8km west of Yamba.

The pilot of the aircraft died at the scene. While the body is yet to be formally identified, it is believed to be that of a man aged in his 60s.

The other occupant - a man believed to be aged in his 30s - suffered serious injuries and was taken to Gold Coast Hospital for treatment.

Officers from Coffs/Clarence Police District are currently at the location and have secured a crime scene.

Members of the public are urged to avoid the area.

No further information is available at this stage.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are underway.
