Police Investigate Apparent Gunshot Wound

Around 2:16 PM February 16, 2026, a gunshot wound to a leg was reported to West Des Moines Police. Emergency crews responded to the home in the 100 block of 12th Street to find a patient who was conscious and alert. Officers and medics provided care at the scene then transported him to a hospital for further treatment. The injury does not appear to be life-threatening.
Police say the scene is secure. Investigators are still at the residence conducting interviews and gathering physical evidence. Although the investigation is still ongoing, police say there is no indication of any ongoing threat to public safety.
