The Sacred Sword's Final Battle Begins: Trailer Drops for 'Mononoke the Movie: Chapter III – The Curse of the Serpent'

Netflix has released the main trailer and key art for Mononoke the Movie: Chapter III - The Curse of the Serpent , the grand finale of the Mononoke film trilogy, premiering September 29.

Ever since its broadcast in the 2000s, the TV anime Mononoke has enjoyed enduring love from its passionate fan base. The story follows a mysterious character known only as the Medicine Seller, who travels to exorcise specters - mononoke - that spawn from human passions and grudges.

Following Mononoke the Movie: The Phantom in the Rain (2024) and Mononoke the Movie: Chapter II - The Ashes of Rage (2025), the sweeping narrative set within the Ōoku finally reaches its ultimate climax.

Throughout all three chapters, the story is set against the backdrop of the lavish and grand Ōoku. A major highlight of the trilogy is its unique structure, where the focus shifts to women of increasingly higher rank with each installment.

Chapter I, The Phantom in the Rain , spotlights a newly arrived maid; Chapter II, The Ashes of Rage , centers on the Ochurou, the elite concubines of the Ōoku; and Chapter III, The Curse of the Serpent , focuses on the Midaidokoro, the highest-ranking woman in the Ōoku. While sharing the same backdrop, each film delves into the anguish and internal struggles of women from completely different walks of life, deftly weaving together the subtle foreshadowing planted since the very first chapter.

Chapters I and II are now streaming on Netflix. Mononoke the Movie: Chapter III - The Curse of the Serpent premieres September 29, only on Netflix.
