Turn your Clcoks Ahead and Check your Smoke and CO Alarms

Daylight Savings Time starts this weekend, March 8th!

Turn your clocks 1-hour ahead & change the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors (unless they have sealed, long-life bateries).

Smoke Alarms should be replaced every 10 years. CO alarms should be replaced every 5 to10 years, depending on the model. Check on the back of the detector for the manufacture date and information.

"Early warning by working smoke and carbon monoxide detectors can be a life saver," says Acting Fire Chief Tom Cahill. "Take a few minutes this weekend to be sure that your detectors are working properly."

• Daylight Savings is a good time to test your alarms
• Review your emergency escape plan with the entire family
• Include older folks, folks with disabilities, and the pets in your escape plan too
• Ensure that the younger children know how to call 911 for an emergency
• If your alarm "chirps" intermittently, it probably means that the battery needs to be replaced or the detector has exceeded it's lifespan

If your alarms activate, call 911 from a safe area. Firefighters will be immediately dispatched to investigate and take proper action as needed.
