Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Harry Theoharis, participated in the European Union-Gulf Cooperation Council (EU-GCC) Summit held in Kuwait on October 6, 2025. The Summit focused on issues related to regional developments, including the situation in Gaza, Ukraine, Yemen, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon and Sudan.
Deputy Minister's intervention focused on Syria and Lebanon, reaffirming Greece's position as an elected member of the United Nations Security Council, which centers on supporting Syria's national sovereignty and unity, inclusive political transition involving all ethnic and religious communities, accountability, and national reconciliation. He also recalled that the European Union had lifted sanctions as part of a gradual and reversible engagement approach. The Deputy Minister underlined that the recent meeting between the Greek Prime Minister and the Syrian Transitional President in New York, as well as the trilateral meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Greece, Cyprus, and Syria, reflect a shared willingness to strengthen, among other things, economic and energy cooperation.
Regarding Lebanon, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs reminded that the Greek Prime Minister was the first foreign leader to visit Lebanon following the ceasefire in December 2024, sending a message of solidarity. He also expressed Greece's readiness to assist in the reconstruction of Lebanon and the building of state institutions. He confirmed Greece's support for convening the EU-Lebanon Association Council in 2025, as well as for the provision of immediate European support to Lebanon.
On the sidelines of the EU-GCC Summit, the Deputy Minister met with Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al Ahmad Al Sabah, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kuwait, during which the excellent level of bilateral relations was confirmed, along with the alignment of Greece and Kuwait's policies on major regional and international issues.
During his visit to Kuwait, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs also met with Abdulaziz Alhudaib, Acting Executive Director of the Kuwait Investment Authority. During the meeting, the Kuwaiti side emphasized that the growth of the Greek economy constitutes an attractive destination for investments, and both sides agreed to enhance dialogue aimed at expanding investment cooperation with Greece.
Finally, the Deputy Minister met with the Greek community in Kuwait at an event held at the Ambassador's residence.
