The City of Greensboro is preparing to demolish existing structures at 1004-1028 John Dimrey Dr. to make way for a future housing development. Work is scheduled to begin the week of November 17 and is expected to take approximately two months. During this time, residents and businesses in the immediate area should anticipate heavy equipment traveling to and from the site.
Prior to demolition, the Greensboro Fire Department, Police Department, and the Guilford County Sheriff's Office will use the site for training exercises from Wednesday, November 12, to Sunday, November 16. Training scenarios include forcible entry, hose deployment, and roof ventilation. These are planned exercises, and there is no cause for alarm.
In its continued effort to increase attainable housing in Greensboro, City Council approved the sale of the City-owned land to Prosperity Alliance and True Homes at its September 16 meeting. The developers plan to construct 15 new, single-family homes on the site. Following demolition, the sale will be finalized. Construction on the future development is expected to begin in the spring of 2026.
