The individual killed in a crash on Tuesday, May 26, has been identified as Jered W. Nelson, 40, of Portland. His family has been notified of his death.
The initial investigation indicates the driver of a Jeep Wrangler was traveling eastbound on Northeast Halsey and turning into a parking lot when Nelson, who was operating what is now determined to be an electric motorcycle and not an electric bicycle, struck the passenger side of the Jeep. Nelson was not wearing a helmet. He was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
The crash remains under investigation, and investigators are examining whether impairment contributed to the incident. At this time, there is no indication the driver of the Jeep was impaired.

Bicyclist Deceased After Crash with Vehicle
On Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at 6:34 p.m., officers from the East Precinct responded to reports of a crash between an electric bicycle and vehicle at the intersection of Northeast Halsey Street and Northeast 111th Avenue. Paramedics arrived at the scene and transported the bicycle rider to an area hospital, where they later died. The driver of the vehicle involved remained at the scene.
The Portland Police Bureau Major Crash Team is responding to investigate. During the investigation, Northeast Halsey Street will be closed between Northeast 111th Avenue and Northeast 113th Avenue.
