Regents roundup for September 2025

Chancellor's updates

Interim Chancellor Gabriella Scarlatta provided the following university updates:

  • The university's first-year enrollment is up 2%, to 1,138 students - the second-largest class in university history.
  • The university's full-time equivalent (FTE) enrollment is up 1% over last year and the six-year graduation rate is up 3%, to 60%. This is the highest six-year graduation rate in university history.
  • The university's total headcount this fall is 8,005, which is a 1% decrease from 2024. This is primarily due to a significant decline in international student enrollment.
  • Early data shows that more than 1,300 UM-Dearborn will receive the Go Blue Guarantee scholarship this year, up from 1,100 last year, an 18% increase.
  • With regard to international students, the university saw a 44% drop in new international student enrollment. The university has been watching this issue closely since last spring and was prepared.
  • Two ways UM-Dearborn is working to boost enrollment, both focused on domestic students: looking at increasing online quality offerings and expanding transfer agreements.
  • One example: a transfer partnership with Jackson College. Students in elementary education will attend Jackson College for their first two years and then transfer to UM-Dearborn and finish the remainder of their coursework online. They will then be able to complete their apprenticeships in their local communities.
