Finland holds the Presidency of the Nordic Council of Ministers in 2025. In the branch government of the Ministry of Education and Culture, the Presidency programme highlights cultural cooperation between the Nordic countries as well as cultural diversity, inclusiveness and equality. In terms of education and research cooperation, the emphasis is on raising the level of education and competence as well as on multidisciplinary research and decision-making that draw on research-based knowledge.

Minister of Education Anders Adlercreutz is responsible for matters related to Nordic cooperation.

"This year, together with Åland, we will promote common issues, such as sustainability, security and crisis resilience in society. We will be paying particular attention to children and young people. These are the issues that the Nordic countries need to focus on now and in the years to come," says Adlercreutz.

Various meetings and events will be organised over the course of the year. A Nordic language seminar will be organised in collaboration between the Nordic Council of Ministers, Hanaholmen Cultural Centre and the Finnish-Swedish Cultural Foundation. The programme also includes a Nordic seminar on the role of early childhood education and care in supporting inclusion and language development as well as a seminar on cultural diversity and inclusiveness in Nordic cultural cooperation.

As part of its Presidency, Finland will host two meetings of the Nordic Ministers of Culture, one in Helsinki in the spring and one in Stockholm in the autumn in conjunction with the Nordic Council Session. An informal meeting of the Ministers of Culture of the Nordic and Baltic countries will also be held in connection with the Helsinki meeting. The topic of the meeting is the protection of cultural heritage in times of crisis and war. The Nordic Council of Ministers for Education and Research will meet in Helsinki in the spring.

An informal meeting of the Youth Ministers will also be held in the spring to discuss the links between the use of digital devices and children's and young people's the psychological and physical wellbeing. A Nordic-Baltic Youth Summit will bring together more than 200 young people from the Nordic and Baltic countries in the autumn.

The culmination of the year is a conference being held in the autumn that focuses on media literacy and education for democratic citizenship to safeguard societal resilience.

The Nordic Council of Ministers is the official body for intergovernmental cooperation in the Nordic region.
