APNIC and the APNIC Foundation supported and participated in AFNOG 2, held online with AFSIG 2024, IGFA 2024, and yIGFA 2024 from 7 to 10 December 2024.
The event welcomed 48 local and international professionals to discuss Internet operations, infrastructure development, regional connectivity, DNS security, Internet routing, regional peering, and Internet governance.

Jia Rong Low gave a welcome address, recognizing the extraordinary resilience of Afghanistan and its technical community and emphasizing the importance of regional collaboration and participation in Internet governance. Aftab Siddiqui also gave opening remarks.

Md. Zobair Khan participated in a panel discussion on 'Enhancing Regional Internet Traffic, Transit and Peering', highlighting the importance of building knowledge and capabilities to support future growth and development of national infrastructure and transit in Afghanistan.

Omar Ansari delivered the closing remarks at the closing ceremony, reflecting on the achievements of AFNOG as a community-driven initiative. He highlighted the importance of institutionalizing AFNOG through robust frameworks and collaborative efforts, emphasizing its role in sustaining Afghanistan's Internet development and empowering local network operators to overcome technical and infrastructure challenges.

Subha Shamarukh presented on 'RIRs and the Next Chapter of Internet Growth: From IPv4 to IPv6' where she explored the critical role of Regional Internet Registries (RIRs), Internet resource delegation, and the importance of transitioning to IPv6.

Adli Wahid delivered a presentation titled 'Vulnerability 101' where he explored vulnerabilities in current Internet protocols.

Omar spoke during the closing ceremony, emphasizing the importance of cybersecurity in Afghanistan's digital landscape, and youth participation in Internet governance. He stressed the importance of adopting a multistakeholder approach to drive inclusive and sustainable development in the economy's Internet governance ecosystem.

Omar closed the forum with a message on resilience and collaboration in Internet governance. He called for focused efforts to bridge the digital divide, enhance cybersecurity and safety measures, and ensure meaningful connectivity for underserved communities in Afghanistan, emphasizing the collective responsibility of all stakeholders in achieving these goals.
