Governor Spanberger Celebrates National Night Out, Thanks Law Enforcement Officers, First Responders for Their Service

RICHMOND, VA - Governor Spanberger yesterday joined Virginians at events in Harrisonburg and Augusta County to celebrate National Night Out and thank law enforcement officers and first responders for their work to keep Virginians safe, strengthen trust with the people they serve, and build stronger communities across the Commonwealth.

"For more than four decades, National Night Out has brought our neighbors and local police officers together to focus on what matters most: building safe, thriving communities," said Governor Abigail Spanberger. "It was great to join Virginians in Harrisonburg and Augusta County to celebrate these partnerships and continue building bridges between the men and women who protect us and the Virginians they serve."

Governor Spanberger continued, "As a former federal law enforcement officer, I know firsthand the importance of fostering trust between first responders and their communities. I look forward to continuing to support our local police officers in their work, and I'm committed to making sure that these officers always have the tools, resources, and training they need to do their jobs and keep us safe."

Governor Spanberger was joined by Secretary of Public Safety and Homeland Security Stanley Meador, state and local leaders, and police officers and first responders.

"National Night Out is a reminder that community safety begins with strong relationships," said Secretary Meador. "When local, state, and community partners work together, we build safer, more resilient communities. I was grateful to join Governor Spanberger and public safety professionals in Harrisonburg, Augusta County, Waynesboro, and across Virginia in celebrating the partnerships that help keep Virginians safe every day."

National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie, with communities across Virginia celebrating. Established in 1984, the annual event is held in cities and towns nationwide on the first Tuesday of August.
