Beginning this week, fees in NYC will increase modestly for eligible orders. In most instances, these increases will be small, ranging from up to 50 cents per order for classic users and up to 30 cents for DashPass users. These changes are limited to New York City and will be rolled out over the coming weeks.
We know no one wants to pay more for delivery. However, facilitating delivery in New York City recently became more costly due to an increase in the city's delivery worker minimum pay requirements - now requiring that delivery workers earn at least $22.13 an hour on delivery, before tips - and other regulations. The reality is that many Dashers in NYC are now making over $30 an hour on average while on delivery, far above the city's minimum wage and much more than many of the city's first responders.
DoorDash's position is straightforward: protect Dasher independence, keep delivery affordable, and help local businesses grow. Those goals can coexist, but they become harder to achieve when city officials keep choosing rigid, expensive mandates over practical solutions.
Our hope is that this modest increase will allow us to continue our operations in New York City in a way that works for Dashers, consumers, and local businesses. However, additional fee increases may be necessary due to changing operational conditions or regulatory requirements. We will continue to evaluate the best ways to serve all sides of our marketplace.
