Marion Civil Rights Commission Accepting Housing Assistance Grant Applications

The Marion Civil Rights Commission is currently accepting applications for the Marion Low & Moderate Income Housing Assistance Grant to be awarded in 2026. The Marion City Council has approved up to $20,000 for use in this grant program.

The grant will help non-profits, charitable organizations or other entities interested in assisting low- and moderate-income individuals with programs that address housing instability. The program, service or activity must have an impact on Marion residents.

Past recipients of program funds included Willis Dady Homeless Services, Four Oaks, Marion Cares, Marion Ministry & Outreach and Waypoint.

"Stable housing is one of the most critical social determinants of health, and safe, adequate and affordable housing is fundamental for all. When families experience housing instability, the consequences extend far beyond the loss of shelter, as it invariably affects health and education, among other things," said Etherton Muchirahondo, chair of the commission. "The Marion Civil Rights Commission is committed to supporting initiatives that strengthen housing security for our residents and is proud to offer this grant opportunity."

The application period will remain open through April 1, 2026. The materials and application form are available via https://www.cityofmarion.org. The target date for awarding the funds is June 2026. The commission will make funding recommendations to City Council, based on a defined set of criteria, to provide maximum assistance to as many proposals as possible.
