Information to the Public Regarding Reported Scam

Release Date:
March 3, 2026

Information to the Public Regarding Reported Scam: The Court has received a recent report of debtors in bankruptcy cases being contacted by scammers using a telephone number appearing to be from the local bankruptcy court, otherwise known as "spoofing." These calls ask the debtor for an installment payment via Zelle. If you receive such a call, please take no action as it is a scam. Filing fees are only payable directly to the Clerk of Court and the bankruptcy court will never ask for payments to be made through Zelle or any other digital wallet application. You may consult the Court's website at https://www.nysb.uscourts.gov/fees-and-rates for more information about how to make a payment to the Clerk of Court. If you would like to report receiving such a scam call or have any other questions, please contact the Court at (212) 284-4040.
