Marion County Recognizes World Down Syndrome Day and County Employees at March 17 Meeting

The Marion County Board of County Commissioners recognized outstanding members of the community and celebrated the county's dedicated workforce during its recent meetings.

World Down Syndrome Day Proclaimed

March 21, 2026, has been officially recognized as World Down Syndrome Day in Marion County. The proclamation highlights the value and contributions of individuals with Down syndrome, who actively participate in education, work, and social activities throughout the community. The county commission encourages residents to support awareness efforts, including the #LotsOfSocks campaign, which uses bright or mismatched socks to promote inclusion and amplify voices.

Celebrating Marion County Employees

April 2026 has been declared Marion County Employee Appreciation Month, honoring the more than 1,800 county employees who serve the community every day. From public safety and utilities to transportation, technology, and environmental services, these professionals work behind the scenes and on the front lines to support more than 435,000 residents and nearly 2 million visitors each year. Their dedication, integrity, and compassion strengthen the community and make Marion County a great place to live, work, and play.
