ALEXANDRIA, Va., (March 2, 2026)-National PTA is pleased to honor Representative Adriano Espaillat (D-NY-13) with its 2026 Congressional Voice for Children Award. The award recognizes outstanding leadership and commitment to enhancing the education and well-being of our nation's children. National PTA will acknowledge Representative Espaillat during the association's 2026 Legislative Conference, Tuesday, March 3.
"Representative Espaillat is a true voice on Capitol Hill for all of our nation's children and families," said Yvonne Johnson, president of National PTA. "Our association appreciates his comprehensive work advocating for issues critical to ensuring every child has every opportunity to reach their full potential, and we are thrilled to honor him with our 2026 Congressional Voice for Children Award."
As the first Dominican American to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives and the first formerly undocumented immigrant to serve in Congress, Representative Espaillat is a champion of the rights of and services for immigrant children and families. Representative Espaillat also cares deeply about addressing food insecurity and has championed federal investments that support our nation's schools and educators, mental health services, and support services for English Language Learners and LGBTQ+ children.
"I am honored to receive the 2026 Congressional Voice for Children Award from National PTA in recognition for my work in Congress," said Representative Espaillat. "For years, PTA has been a powerful advocate for students across our country, and I'm proud to stand with parents and educators in the fight to expand education, invest in school infrastructure, promote child nutrition and protect our students from violence. I look forward to continuing our work together to build a future where every child has the opportunity to thrive."
Representative Espaillat will be recognized during an awards celebration as part of National PTA's 2026 Legislative Conference. Every year, National PTA's Legislative Conference or LegCon brings together PTA leaders and child advocates from across the country to take action on the association's advocacy priorities. Attendees will meet with members of Congress, Tuesday, March 3, to advocate for public schools, immigrant families and policies that protect children's health, safety and well-being. Among the issues, attendees will be urging Congress to pass the Protecting Sensitive Locations Act. For more information about the conference, visit PTA.org/LegCon.
