Update: Pleasant Valley Stabbing Investigation is a Homicide Case
On Saturday, July 19, 2025 at 12:32 p.m., Portland Police officers from East Precinct responded to a report of a stabbing at a home in the 6400 block of Southeast 143rd Court. When they arrived, they located an adult female who was injured inside a home. EMS was called in and confirmed she was deceased at the scene.
Five children were in the home at the time and it was unknown if the suspect was still on scene. Officers made a hasty rescue plan and quickly got all five kids out of the home unharmed. Due to the possibility that a suspect may still be inside, or possibly other victims who were undiscovered, SERT and CNT responded to the scene. Once adequate resources were in place, SERT officers cleared the home. At one point they used a controlled charge on the garage door in order to safely get access. No additional victims were located, and the suspect was confirmed to be gone. This tactical response included SERT, CNT, PPB UAS (drone) pilots, K9, Portland Fire & Rescue, American Medical Response, and the Gresham Police Department.
The suspect was located in Vancouver, Washington. The Vancouver Police Department (VPD), in coordination with Portland Police Bureau, contacted the suspect. At about 3:50 p.m., he was taken into custody by VPD. No other suspects are currently being sought.
The victim will be identified after her identity is confirmed by the Oregon State Medical Examiner and family has had time to make notifications. The suspect is not being identified at this time.
The investigation is continuing by the Portland Police Homicide Unit. If anyone has information about this case, please contact Detective Brian Sims at Brian.Sims@police.portlandoregon.gov (503) 823-2079 or Detective Meghan Burkeen at Meghan.Burkeen@police.portlando… (503) 823-2092, and please reference case number 25-192949.
The Portland Police Bureau is grateful for the assistance of the Vancouver Police Department and the Gresham Police Department on this case.
Traffic remains blocked on Southeast 143rd Court south of Southeast Foster Road, as this area is a crime scene. However Southeast Foster Road reopened to traffic at 4:23 p.m. Additional information will be released when appropriate.
