Wasserman Schultz, Feeding South Florida Unveil Mobile Emergency Response Kitchen

Pembroke Park, FL - Today, U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (FL-25) joined Feeding South Florida for the unveiling of a Mobile Emergency Response Kitchen.

The Emergency Response Kitchen was funded in part by $2 million in federal funds secured by Wasserman Schultz in FY23 federal funding bills. Another estimated $1-1.5 million was spent to complete the project.

"Federal nutritional aid and school lunches are being cut. So it's more important than ever because our community needs this fresh, nutritious food resource that can come directly to underserved areas and be rapidly deployed to disaster-stricken areas," said Wasserman Schultz. "Thankfully, we managed to avoid major storms this year, but they're going to return. And during emergencies or natural disasters, the market and the kitchen will be a resource to impacted families."

During hurricane season, Feeding South Florida will be able to divert the truck to hard hit areas in the southeastern United States. Thanks to their partnership with Feeding America, they'll be able to help keep shelves stocked and people fed in moments of crisis.

The Mobile Emergency Response Kitchen features a 900-square-foot mobile pantry equipped to deliver fresh, nutritious food supplies such as produce, dairy, and proteins to underserved and disaster-stricken areas. It can prepare and serve thousands of hot meals daily, even when power is out, accelerating response times to natural disasters and addressing food insecurity year-round.
