Harrisburg, PA- March 24, 2026- Today, House Democratic Appropriations Chairman Jordan Harris introduced a 26-27 budget in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives' Appropriations Committee. Senator Vincent Hughes, Senate Democratic Appropriations Chair, issued the following statement in support of moving the budget process forward:
"Today, the House took an important step to get the budget negotiation process moving. I echo Chairman Harris' commitment to delivering an on-time budget that addresses the real needs and current circumstances for our communities, schools, and businesses.
The budget proposal that Governor Shapiro shared in February offered a responsible approach to addressing affordability and growing the economic vibrancy of the Commonwealth, all without raising taxes.
Life has gotten too expensive. Utility bills keep going up, housing costs are at an all-time high, and federally imposed tariffs have put a heavy burden on our small businesses. We need to step up to solve these issues here at home. The Governor's budget delivers on that need.
I look forward to engaging with the House, my Senate Republican colleagues, and the Governor to finalize a budget that puts the people of Pennsylvania first."
