During last night's Regular Assembly Meeting, the Anchorage Assembly took actions to sequence AO 2024-105, the Project Anchorage sales tax proposal, currently moving through the public process.

First, the Assembly approved AR 2025-17, to express the intent that, if a version of AO 2024-105 is approved by the Assembly, there would be a special election between August 1 and November 30, 2025 for voters to consider the proposal. Then, the Assembly voted to continue the public hearing on AO 2024-105, including its substitute versions, to March 4.

As of today, there are five substitute (S) proposals to AO 2024-105:

Broadly, the alternative versions offer variations of Project Anchorage elements, including tax amounts, dedications, and exemptions. Compare the substitute (S) versions with detailed summaries and statements from the sponsors online:

About Project Anchorage
Project Anchorage is an initiative developed by a coalition of Anchorage businesses leaders and the Anchorage Economic Development Authority (AEDC) that proposes to enact a temporary 3% sales tax to offer property tax relief and fund the development of local projects.

If approved by the Assembly by a two-thirds majority, AO 2024-105 would establish the ballot proposition language for qualified voters to consider establishing the sales tax in Anchorage Municipal Charter.

Options for Public Testimony
The next public hearing on AO 2024-105 is scheduled for the Regular Assembly Meeting on Tuesday, March 4. The public is invited to share input on the Project Anchorage proposal:
