Warcraft III Reforged: Forsaken Kingdom What's Next Panel Recap

At BlizzCon 2026, Senior Manager of the RTS/RPG Group and Project Lead Brad Chan took to the stage to show off Warcraft III Reforged: Forsaken Kingdom and take us on a journey through the Last Days of Lordaeron Prologue Campaign, the Forsaken Kingdom Campaign, Definitive Edition Graphics, and the new Forsaken Paladin hero.

More than 20 years after Warcraft III first carried players through the fall of Lordaeron, Warcraft III Reforged: Forsaken Kingdom continues the story-and finally answers a burning question: what happened after Arthas returned?

Inside Warcraft III Reforged: Forsaken Kingdom

Warcraft III Reforged: Forsaken Kingdom explores the events between Arthas's return to Lordaeron and the emergence of the Undercity, filling in the four-year gap between Warcraft III and World of Warcraft.

The story is split between the Last Days of Lordaeron prologue and the main Forsaken Kingdom campaign, following the aftermath of Arthas's return to Lordaeron and chronicling the rise of Sylvanas Windrunner and the Forsaken as they join the Horde.

Warcraft III Reforged: Forsaken Kingdom includes approximately 30 hours of gameplay and nearly an hour of in-game cinematics-a suitably "chonky" experience (Brad's words). Alongside the campaign, Patch 3.0 also adds a new Definitive Edition graphics mode for all Warcraft III: Reforged players, updating the game's visuals while preserving the spirit of the original Warcraft III.

Last Days of Lordaeron Prologue Campaign

The story begins with Lordaeron's fall.

The four-mission Last Days of Lordaeron prologue begins as Arthas returns home. Players experience the kingdom's final hours through the eyes of the Capital City Guard, including the soldiers present for one of Warcraft III's most quoted throne-room moments, which does not go especially well for anyone on guard duty.

Revisit familiar locations from a new point of view, including the Capital of Lordaeron, the sewers that will eventually become Undercity, Andorhal, and Stratholme after the culling.

For Lordaeron's citizens, the prince is simply returning home, but players, unfortunately, know there is no tomorrow-and that the local blacksmith's bad day is about to become considerably worse.

These are the events that set the stage for Undercity.

The Forsaken Kingdom Campaign

After the prologue, the story moves beneath the ruins of Lordaeron.

The main campaign opens into a soft-open, single-player RPG structure inspired by The Frozen Throne's Rexxar campaign. However, it is not a Rexxar campaign, but it builds on the items, exploration, and hero progression that made that adventure memorable. As players explore the founding of the Undercity, they can develop their heroes through an expanded inventory and talent system.

At the heart of the story are two new characters-Garek Bandarion, a newly risen Forsaken warrior, and Dark Ranger Anya. Their story unfolds alongside familiar figures including Sylvanas Windrunner, Putress, Varimathras, Sally Whitemane, Renault Mograine, Arthas, Kel'Thuzad, Ras Frostwhisper, and Baron Rivendare.

Through Garek and Anya, players will learn how the Undercity was established, how the Forsaken formed their own culture and community, why the Scourge did not reclaim Lordaeron… and why the water is green.

The campaign also explores how the Forsaken begin again after losing their homes, families, freedom, and their lives.

Introducing Definitive Edition Graphics

Patch 3.0 introduces a new graphics option.

Definitive Edition is a new graphics mode designed to retain the silhouettes, readability, and stylized identity of classic Warcraft III while increasing visual fidelity. The update rebuilds more than 600 units and refreshes environments, lighting, effects, and structures.

Definitive Edition is available in Warcraft III Reforged: Forsaken Kingdom and existing Warcraft III content. Players can use Classic graphics or switch to Definitive Edition, and cross-graphics play remains supported.

A New Tavern Hero: Forsaken Paladin

The update also adds a new multiplayer hero, because 20 years is long enough to leave the Tavern roster alone.

The Forsaken Paladin joins the Tavern as Warcraft III's first new hero in more than 20 years. A little perspective-the last additions were the Firelord, Goblin Tinker, and Alchemist in September 2004… just "a few years ago."

The Forsaken Paladin is available at no additional cost in multiplayer, with Classic, Reforged, and Definitive Edition graphics. Is the Forsaken Paladin overpowered? Brad can neither confirm nor deny it, which is exactly the sort of answer that encourages players to find out immediately.

Warcraft III Reforged: Forsaken Kingdom introduces the origins of the Forsaken Paladin, with story threads that continue into World of Warcraft: Forever. Players hoping to determine whether "could confirm or deny" means "prepare for the Tavern pick of the century" will have plenty to uncover.

Warcraft III Reforged: Forsaken Kingdom, patch 3.0, and Definitive Edition graphics are available now. Watch the Warcraft III Reforged: Forsaken Kingdom Deep Dive for more on the campaign, Definitive Edition graphics, and the Forsaken Paladin.
