Washington, D.C. - Representative Dave Min (CA-47) released the following statement on his plans to boycott the State of the Union address:
"Today, the president will deliver the State of the Union address, a longstanding tradition for the past 200 years. I will not be attending.
We are not living through normal times. Trump is following a well worn authoritarian playbook to undermine and destroy our democracy and our rule of law. He has repeatedly violated the Constitution of the United States and ignored the separation of powers that is at the heart of our Republic. He has deployed troops in our streets and unleashed masked storm troopers inflicting violence against our communities. He has weaponized the federal government to go after his political critics. He has unilaterally raised taxes and declared war on other countries without Congressional approval, in direct contravention of Article I of our Constitution. He has covered up a massive child sex trafficking ring and his name is all over the Epstein files.
I cannot in good conscience lend legitimacy to an event that will be used to spread misinformation, gaslight the American people, and further weaken faith in our democracy."
