Here for What Matters in Mountain Pine, Arkansas with Bobby Bones and iHeartRadio

During National Literacy Month in September, the Dollar General Literacy Foundation, Dollar General, iHeartRadio and Bobby Bones (CMA and ACM Award-winning radio personality, host of the No. 1 nationally-syndicated Country radio programThe Bobby Bones Showand Arkansas native) recently visited Bones' hometown in Mountain Pine, Arkansas to give back to his former schools in the Mountain Pine School District.

The event included a surprise $50,000 donation from Dollar General's (DG) Reading Revolution program, and Bobby Bones and iHeartRadio provided more than 700 free new books for students' personal libraries.

How Education Opened Doors for Bobby Bones

"Books and education gave me the opportunity to believe bigger things were possible," said Bobby Bones. "Every student deserves that same chance. Being able to come back home, put books into students' hands and help invest in these schools means a lot. I'm grateful to the Dollar General Literacy Foundation and iHeartRadio for joining me in supporting the next generation of kids in Mountain Pine."

Growing up in Mountain Pine, Arkansas, Bobby knows firsthand how the right resources can expand what's possible. From literacy programs that help people build skills and confidence to a local Dollar General serving as a cornerstone of the community, access can make all the difference.

Bobby often shares that Dollar General was one of the few places people in town could go, making his local store a familiar part of everyday life for many families.

$50,000 Literacy Donation and Hundreds of Books Surprise Mountain Pine Students and Educators

The surprise $50,000 DG Reading Revolution donation may be used to purchase books, technology programs, computers and/or other education supplies or resources needed to advance literacy gains. Since its inception in 2013, Dollar General's Reading Revolution program has awarded more than $5 million to 137 schools and literacy-focused non-profit organizations.

Additional donations included DG gift cards for supplies and materials for all teachers and staff from Dollar General. Bones and iHeartRadio also provided copies of his children's book, Stanley The Dog: The First Day of School, for each elementary student and his bestselling motivational memoir, Fail Until You Don't: Fight. Grind. Repeat, for all high school students.

"Bobby's story is a powerful reminder of how literacy can open doors and create opportunities that extend far beyond the classroom," said Denine Torr, executive director of the Dollar General Literacy Foundation. "We are honored to partner with Bobby and iHeartRadio to support the students and educators of Mountain Pine School District and help strengthen the literacy resources available to the community. This donation further reflects the impact that can be achieved when organizations, advocates and communities come together to champion literacy and create brighter futures for learners of all ages."

The Yellow Glasses Project 2026 Concludes, Raising $9+ Million Since 2020

The event also concludes the Foundation's seventh annual The Yellow Glasses Project , an awareness campaigning shining a light on the impact of literacy and paving the way toward brighter futures for learners nationwide. Since launching in 2020, the campaign has raised more than $9 million, helping millions of learners of all ages in their education journeys.

Between July 20 and International Literacy Day on September 8, 2026, DG customers across the country purchased yellow sunglasses for $2 at participating Dollar General stores with all proceeds benefitting grant programs of the Foundation, which funds literacy and education programs at schools, libraries and non-profit organizations in DG's hometowns.

This year, the campaign featured a new partnership with Bobby Bones and iHeartRadio to share heartfelt stories about the power of literacy, inspire action and champion The Yellow Glasses mission across iHeartRadio, multiple podcasts and The DG In-Store Radio Network.
