Marking 20 years, 2 million acres for Walmart’s Acres for America

Acres for America, a landmark conservation program led by Walmart and NFWF, marked its 20th anniversary in 2025 with a renewed commitment to support wildlife, iconic American landscapes and outdoor recreation for at least another decade.

To date, Acres for America has funded nearly 130 projects to permanently conserve more than 2 million acres throughout the nation.

The program awarded yet another round of grants in fiscal year 2025 to projects that will protect more than 145,000 acres. These projects will conserve iconic wildlife and landscapes, protect migration routes, create access for people to enjoy the outdoors, and safeguard the future of local economies that depend on forestry, ranching and recreation.

In Illinois and Missouri, stakeholders will protect 3,200 acres of floodplain stopover habitat for migrating waterfowl.

Nearly 14,000 acres of forestland in Maine will be opened for public use and conserved for moose, deer, Canada lynx and brook trout.

A 21,449-acre ranch in Nevada will be opened for public use and conserved for mule deer, elk and pronghorn.

In North Carolina, 1.5 miles of beach and shoreline on Topsail Island will be conserved and opened for public access.

Another grant supported the largest conservation easement in South Carolina's history, opening access to and protecting 62,000 acres of working forests along the Pee Dee, Santee and Black rivers.

And in Wyoming, Acres for America helped conserve the largest tract of unprotected land remaining within the boundaries of Grand Teton National Park.

With the preservation of these lands, and those in the years to come, Walmart's Acres for America program stands as the leading public-private land conservation partnership in the United States.
