Library Card Sign-Up Month is a national campaign headed by the American Library Association to promote awareness about the importance of holding a library card. Palm Beach County Library cards grant access to almost two million free books, e-books, audiobooks, movies and TV shows. Beyond the collection, Library cardholders can access online databases for information including genealogy research, career development and early childhood education. Members can access STEM kits, book an Explorer's Pass for free cultural attractions admissions and reserve time slots for meeting rooms and Creation Stations.
The Library provides a safe place for members of all ages to socialize and learn. Free classes include gardening, health classes, technology training, book discussions and craft meet-ups. Families can take part in story times for children from birth through pre-K, enjoy STEAM programs and even help their child practice reading with teen volunteers or therapy dogs.
This September, the Palm Beach County Library System is celebrating with a special incentive encouraging members to share the Library with friends and family. When a Library member brings a friend or family member to any Library location to sign up for a new Library card or renew an expired card, they will both be entered into a drawing for a special prize. Participants will also receive a limited-edition Pop-It keychain featuring the phrase "I Heart Palm Beach County Library System," while supplies last.
This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Library. The Friends support Library programs by providing funds for activities and events. The Friends receive donations directly, through book sales and through printing costs.
