Barrett Celebrates $2.5 Million Federal Investment Secured For Clinton County Road Project

Bath, Mich. - Yesterday, Congressman Tom Barrett (MI-07) joined Clinton County County Road Commission officials at Chandler Road on the border of Bath and DeWitt townships - the site of a future road repair project for which he secured federal funding through the bipartisan appropriations bill that passed Congress in February and was signed into law. The $2.5 million investment to repair Chandler Road is part of the $146 million Barrett has secured for mid-Michigan projects since taking office last year.

"Investing in infrastructure supports mid-Michiganders and strengthens local communities like Bath, DeWitt, and East Lansing," said Barrett. "Families, workers, and students depend on Chandler Road, and the resources I secured to rebuild the road will ensure people can continue driving and riding across the community safely. I'll continue working to secure federal investments to improve roads, bridges, and other critical infrastructure in mid-MIchigan"

Barrett met with Clinton County Road Commission Managing Director Doug Steffen, along with Road Commissioners Michael Frederick and Gail Watkins, at the stretch of Chandler Road between Stoll Road at the north and State Road at the south. This future project, which will receive $2.5 million in federal funding Barrett secured, is part of a larger repair effort for a 2-mile stretch of Chandler Road from Stoll Road south to Coleman Road, located in and along Bath Township, DeWitt Township, and East Lansing.

"Repairing and improving Chandler Road will give the many residents and businesses who use it a smoother, safer travel experience," said Doug Steffen, managing director of the Clinton County Road Commission. "We are grateful to Congressman Barrett for securing this significant investment in Clinton County infrastructure, which will support the community's growth and people's quality of life for years to come."

The Chandler Road project will repair and extend the lifespan of the road through full-depth pavement replacement, subgrade stabilization, drainage improvements, and roadway design enhancements.
