Mayor Walsh Announces Names for Three New Snowplows in City Fleet

Published on December 16, 2025

Mayor Walsh announced the names of three newly added snowplows to the City of Syracuse's winter fleet, continuing a tradition that brings a touch of creativity and community spirit to the city's snow-fighting efforts.

The new snowplows have been officially named:

  • You're Killing Me, Squalls

  • Syracuse Saltshaker

  • Snow Big Deal

"These names reflect the humor and imagination of our residents," said Mayor Walsh. "While our snowplows work hard to keep streets safe and clear during the winter months, giving them names adds a fun and engaging way for the community to connect with the essential work our public works employees do every day."

The names were selected from over 700 submissions by Syracuse residents as part of a citywide naming contest held earlier this year. The newly named plows will be deployed throughout the city. Residents will spot them in action during upcoming snow events.

The City currently operates 26 large plow trucks in its fleet. During his eight years, Mayor Walsh ordered 25 new plow trucks with 23 delivered to date. Each truck represents a significant investment in public safety and infrastructure, costing approximately $250,000, taking about two years to build, and weighing roughly 60,000 pounds when fully loaded. This ongoing commitment reflects the City's dedication to modernizing and strengthening its snow response capabilities.
