Recognized for outstanding advocacy and clinical excellence at Roxborough Memorial Hospital after providing steadfast support to a patient during a difficult post-operative discharge; a testament to reverence, integrity and teamwork.
Pam Dunuan, RN, has been honored with the prestigious DAISY Award, recognizing her exceptional compassion, clinical skill, and commitment to the core values of reverence, excellence, and integrity in nursing. This accolade stems from the poignant nomination submitted by Brandi Thomas, a patient at Roxborough Memorial Hospital, who shared her experience during a recent hospitalization from December 5 to December 9 for gallbladder removal surgery.
Throughout her stay, Brandi encountered many skilled nurses, but Pam's dedication stood out remarkably. For two days, Pam consistently provided compassionate care, demonstrating not only clinical expertise but also the ability to connect with her patients on a personal level. Her warm smiles and attentive demeanor made Brandi feel genuinely cared for, which is a hallmark of exemplary nursing.
A particularly challenging moment arose on the night of Brandi's surgery when she was unexpectedly informed of her discharge. Despite her significant pain and difficulties, including being unable to use the restroom or keep food down, the communication from the provider felt less supportive than Brandi needed at that moment. This left her feeling vulnerable and overwhelmed as she navigated a distressing situation.
In this critical moment, Pam's true character shone through. She remained by Brandi's side, offering comfort and advocacy when it was most needed. Pam helped Brandi stay calm and provided essential support until she could reach her husband. This unwavering dedication not only alleviated Brandi's fears but also embodied the very essence of the DAISY Award criteria-demonstrating that truly exceptional nursing goes beyond clinical tasks to include profound emotional support.
Brandi's heartfelt nomination illustrates Pam's embodiment of the DAISY Award's values. Her actions not only transformed Brandi's experience but also set a standard for patient care excellence.
In addition to Pam, Brandi acknowledged the contributions of other team members-Tamia, May, and Mike-who also exemplify the spirit of compassionate care. With over 20 years in the healthcare field, Brandi confidently asserts that such professionals are the backbone of effective patient care.
Pam's recognition through the DAISY Award serves not only to honor her outstanding service but also to inspire her colleagues to strive for the same level of commitment and compassion in their practice. Her dedication is a true reflection of what patient care should be, and she deserves this acknowledgment wholeheartedly.
