The City of Fort Morgan, in partnership with Sandhills Energy and the Municipal Energy Agency of Nebraska (MEAN), is proud to announce the completion of a 3.8 MW facility that will supply approximately 5% of the city's annual energy needs and strengthen the community's commitment to sustainable energy.
On Thursday, December 4, 2025, the City of Fort Morgan celebrated a joint ribbon-cutting with representatives from Sandhills Energy and the Municipal Energy Agency of Nebraska, MEAN, marking the completion of one of the largest MEAN solar projects to date.
The success of the project is the result of collaborative efforts between the City of Fort Morgan, MEAN - a non-profit organization providing wholesale energy services to more than 60 communities across Colorado, Iowa, Nebraska, and Wyoming - and Sandhills Energy, a renewable energy development company, leading project management efforts including engineering, construction, and operations management. Working closely with city leadership, these partners helped ensure that Fort Morgan has access to reliable energy solutions.
City leaders and representatives from Sandhills Energy and MEAN officials attended the ribbon-cutting, speaking on the significance of the project with City Manager Brent Nation previously adding, "Our city has a long history of innovation-from the early irrigation reservoirs to adopting electric streetlights in 1906-and this solar project continues that legacy. It will help stabilize our energy costs, create local jobs, and strengthen Fort Morgan's commitment to responsible growth and sustainability."
This project brings additional renewable energy resources to Fort Morgan, diversifying the city's power supply with clean, reliable solar energy.
