Russian strike damages major pharmaceutical warehouse in Ukraine

Kyiv, Ukraine, August 7, 2026 - A Russian strike in Dnipro today severely damaged one of Ukraine's largest pharmaceutical warehouses risking vital medical supplies relied on by the IRC and other humanitarian organizations. The warehouse is a key storage hub for life-saving medicines, treatments for chronic conditions, as well as supplies critical for the daily operations of intensive care units, surgery departments, and emergency services.

The fire was still burning as of this release and, the full scale of the damage is unknown. IRC staff are monitoring the situation, but losses could run to hundreds of thousands of dollars in inventory.

"Medicine and medical supplies should be off limits," said Dr. Marko Isajlovic, IRC's Ukraine Senior Health Coordinator. "When they're destroyed, it is not only the medicines that are lost; the ability to provide critical care is lost with them. With continuity of care disrupted, chronic conditions including diabetes and heart diseases, go unmanaged, and people are left with even fewer options to get the care they urgently need."

The IRC is calling for an end to attacks on civilians and civilian objects, including facilities storing essential medicines and medical supplies, as required by international humanitarian law. Medicines and medical supplies are the foundation of health services, their destruction costs lives.
