DCHA & 2026 MBSYEP Interns Conclude a Successful Summer

The 2026 cohort of the Marion Berry Jr. Summer Youth Employment Program (MBSYEP)
interns gained hands-on experience and learned more about multiple industries, including
business, finance, mass media and health, while placed with the DC Housing Authority
(DCHA) for 6 weeks from June 29th to August 7th
.
Interns shadowed DCHA staff in the Property Management Operations (PMO), Office of
Resident Services (ORS), Office of Public Affairs & Communications (OPAC), Office of
Customer Engagement (OCE), Housing Choice Voucher Program (HCVP), and Office of Capital
Programs (OCP) departments. Interns also participated in workshops focused on career and life
skills and sat in on a panel discussion hosted by students from prestigious universities.
Additionally, interns were able to earn their certificates in First Aid/CPR.
One of the highlights of the program was a trip to a Washington Nationals baseball game where
DCHA interns networked with professionals in sports media while enjoying a baseball game -
the first time many of the interns had seen a professional game in person.
To cap off their internships, DCHA hosted a ceremony at the EnVison Center celebrating all they
accomplished throughout the summer.

MBSYEP, administered by the D.C. Department of Employment Services (DOES), has operated
for 46 years and remains one of the nation's longest-running youth employment initiatives. The
program provides District youth ages 14 to 24 with meaningful work experiences across the
public and private sectors, with a focus on leadership development, workforce readiness, and
civic engagement.
DCHA is proud to continue its partnership with MBSYEP. By investing in District youth, the
agency reaffirms its commitment to supporting workforce development and strengthening the
communities it serves
